W7DXX Remote Base Setup
1) Download and run the full install near the bottom of this page.
2) Once downloaded, run this install program. On some computers, you may
need to run it twice if it does not complete the first time.
Please install the program in the default folder of c:\n4py. Do not install this
program in "Program Files".
3) Once the install has fully finished, drag the Pegasus horse shortcut
Icon to your desktop. This icon is how you will start the N4PY program.
4) Start the N4PY program. The settings window will appear as a yellow
box. Make sure you are in the "Call Sign, TopTen" settings window.
5) Put your call sign in the call sign box in upper case.
6) Now click the list box in the upper left of the yellow settings
window and select the "Interface" menu.
7) In the password box in the Interface settings window, put in your W7DXX password.
8) Click the Logon button.
9) You should be now connecting to the W7DXX remote base.
There are many settings that you may want to configure for how
you like things. The 12 filter buttons can be changed to any
filter value you want by right clicking on them. The default
filter for any mode can be set in the "Preferences2" settings
window. It is just a number from 1 to 12 that corresponds to
each of the 12 filter buttons. The upper left hand corner
filter button is number 1, and the lower right hand corner
button is number 12.
To send CW, just go to a CW band by clicking on one of the CW band
buttons. Then press Alt-K to bring up the CW Keyboard window.
You can then just type characters to send CW.
If you have a K1EL keyer and wish to use your K1EL keyer paddles
to send CW, then turn on the K1EL keyer setting in the CW
settings window. You will also have to put in the correct comport
for the K1EL keyer. Then when you form characters with the paddles,
the characters will be sent to the remote base.
You can also connect a logging program to your N4PY client program. Most popular
logging programs such as DX4Win, Logger32, DXBase, DXLab, can directly hook up
to N4PY. All you do is configure the logging program for a Tentec Pegasus. When you
do this, the logging program will use the Tentec file interface to communicate with N4PY
instead of a comport. You will also have to configure the folder where you installed
N4PY. If you installed N4PY in its default folder, this is c:\n4py .
The rotor and amp controls are in the "Call Sign, Topten" settings window. The amp "On" button
turns red when the amp is warmed up. You change the rotor heading by simply typing the new heading
in the rotor heading box.
Starting with version 4.00 for Pegasus Plus and 3.00 for Orion
and Icom, there is now an automatic connect for IPSound in the
N4PY program for Windows XP only. This means that no configuration at
the client side for IPSound is required. The only configuration is at the
Server side. At the client side, you can even configure IPSound to start
automatically. In the Pegasus.ini file, find the line:
AUTO PROGRAM
and also
AUTO PROGRAM START FOLDER=
Set both these lines to the values you see by right clicking on
the IPSound Icon and then selecting properties. For my Windows XP
computer, these are the values I have:
AUTO PROGRAM :\program files\sm5vxc\ip-sound\ipsound.exe
AUTO PROGRAM START FOLDER=c:\program files\sm5vxc\ip-sound
For my Windows 7 64 computer, these are the values I have:
AUTO PROGRAM :\program files (x86)\sm5vxc\ip-sound\ipsound.exe
AUTO PROGRAM START FOLDER=c:\program files (x86)\sm5vxc\ip-sound
Once you put these two lines in, the client side when started will
also start IPSound. Then when you exit the client side, IPSound
will be automatically exited. And as soon as you connect to the
server, IPSound will also automatically connect.
Starting with version 4.01, the N4PY program will now automatically connect and disconnect IPSound
when you log on and off to the IRB for Windows XP only. All you need to do is have IPSound running before you start the N4PY program.
