Ten Tec Orion and Eagle Control Program Current Version 3.41
This is the N4PY Orion Control Program (click photo for larger image). It will control an Orion, Orion II, TenTec Eagle, or Tentec Argonaut VI transceiver. Additionally, it will allow an RX-340 to be used as an alternate receiver to the Orion. The Orion program features "Smart VFO". This is an intelligent algorithm that automatically assigns the best receiver to VFO A and VFO B depending on the frequencies of each VFO making the ham band only limitation of the Orion's main receiver almost unnoticeable. The software also allows the seamless use of transverters for the VHF/UHF bands with the display showing the transverter frequency. Full configurability directly from the program is available. You can even adjust the values for fast, medium, and slow AGC. There is also now a separate front panel slider to control AGC Threshold. And the nice part about this control is it is remembered by band. Additionally, there is a save/restore feature for the internal memories of the Orion. You can select to run the program in Front Panel control mode and have the program monitor the operation of the Orion. This allows the software to export a Pegasus file interface to any logging program that can work with a Pegasus. The end result is you can now have full logging control of the Orion while the Orion is in front panel control. You can also decide to run the Orion entirely from the program and not use the Orion front panel controls at all.
With the new Flex-1500 (or even a used SDR-1000 1 watt version for around $200) now available from Flex Radio, you can now add the fantastic Flex Radio real time panadapter to your Orion or Orion II when using N4PY software. The N4PY Orion Control program will allow you to add any Flex radio (the brand new Flex-1500 is only $579) to your Orion. With this Flex radio configured along with your Orion, you will see 48 khz to 192 khz of spectrum around the frequency your Orion is tuned for. Additionally, you will be able to mouse click on signals displayed on the panadapter and your Orion will automatically tune exactly to them. This will give you the benefits of a Flex radio on your Orion. Operation of the pair of radios this way works really well. And the best part is no modifications to your Orion are required.
